Workforce First

Since its inception, Westchester Family Care (WFC) has always been a company that puts the interests of our workforce first. Inspired by his own experience caring for aging parents with Alzheimer’s, Founder/CEO Glenn Lane entered the home care industry determined to offer a different kind of home care agency: one that cares deeply for the caregiver as much as the client. And one with a progressive approach to top-tier compensation, benefits, training, and a rewarding and supportive work environment.

“We’ve been there. We understand that every client and personal situation is different and requires an individual, customized solution from only the best caregivers.”
– Glenn Lane, Founder & CEO

We are proud of our best practices in recruitment, hiring, and retention. We consider these to be key elements of our culture and how WFC distinguishes itself to caregivers and clients alike.

Industry-Leading Commitment to our Workforce

We are committed to treating our workforce with respect and professionalism. WFC believes this can only be accomplished by offering industry-leading compensation, flexible work shifts, innovative benefits/recognition programs, and ongoing training/development. Further, we are proud of consistently receiving high satisfaction ratings from our caregivers who derive job fulfillment from working one-on-one with clients in the safety and comfort of an in-home setting.

Key elements of our workforce’s compensation and benefits include:

  • Competitive Pay for Part‐time, Full‐time, and Live‐in Caregivers
  • Annual Pay Raise with Tenure along with Periodic Base Pay Raises
  • Sign-On Bonuses
  • Employee Referral Bonuses
  • Paid Sick & Vacation Time Off
  • 401(k) Plan, now with employer match
  • Medical Plan with Health Savings Account for Full Time Employees

The hourly rate for caregivers gets annually adjusted upward with automatic annual pay increases for tenure.

Additionally, we consider the caregiver’s work situation and professional development:

  • Flexible Shifts, Scheduling Options, and Start Dates
  • Free NYS HHA Training Classes
  • Free HHA Transition Classes for CNAs
  • Free HHA Competency Classes for NYS HHAs who haven’t worked for an agency recently

In keeping with our desire to play a leadership role in the industry, we launched an innovative Employee Hardship Fund called “Westchester Family Care Grant Circle.” designed to help workers who face immediate unexpected financial issues such as those related to housing, medical or car repairs.

WFC’s foundational roots keep us sensitive to changing demands of the workplace. Currently, there is a hiring crisis in healthcare, and particularly troubling is the lack of available workers to do the vital job we entrust to our caregivers.

WFC and other private home care agencies are competing with corporate giants like Starbucks and Amazon who have more hiring flexibility and more resources.

These new developments have intensified our efforts to differentiate WFC and make ours an even better place for employees to work.

Workforce First

“If you take care of your employees, they will take care of the clients.”
Richard Branson, Founder – Virgin Group

As we conclude a challenging year, WFC has reviewed all aspects of caregiver rewards. We regularly survey our caregivers on all aspects of job satisfaction. Employee feedback provides direction for instituting new programs to attract and keep the best caregivers in the business.

The following summarizes our recent and planned increased investments in our people.

  • Life Insurance – Added life insurance to our optional dental and vision plan for those who qualify with a contribution from WFC.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – Transitioning to an industry-leading EAP from Berkshire Hathaway.
  • Time Off – Continuing paid sick & vacation program with technology enhancements to make it easier to request and administer.
  • New HR Platform – Implemented in 4Q 2021with improved employee and candidate experience as well as increased functionality for our HR team.

New Position – Employer Services Specialist
Another element of the Workforce First effort is the creation of a new position solely focused on the satisfaction of our employees. The position is a bridge between Coordination and Human Resources to ensure our people have the best experience possible at WFC.

In sum, WFC offers our workforce a comprehensive approach to pay, benefits, a safe work environment, and our team culture. This work continues with new and exciting developments for the WFC workforce.

We lead by striving to be better and not just competitive.
