Marthe Louissaint

Westchester Family Care Caregiver of the Year 2022

Meet Marthe Louissaint, a certified Home Health Aide (HHA) at Westchester Family Care. Marthe has been a caregiver in the United States since 2010 and with WFC since we opened our doors. For her outstanding home care services, we honor Marthe as our December 2022 Caregiver of the Month and WFC’s Caregiver of the Year!

When she was a young woman in her native Haiti, Marthe took on a caregiving role for her mother, who was ill. She credits her mom with giving her the foundation at an early age for caring for others.

I’ve cared about people for as long as I can remember, and I always think of my mom when caring for my patients.”

Marthe came to the United States with her son after Haiti had a devastating earthquake in 2010. She initially lived in Spring Valley with her son’s father and found work taking care of toddlers whose working parents dropped them off at Marthe’s home. Life’s circumstances took her to New Jersey. She worked at Taco Bell for a few years, at a hotel as a housekeeper, and later, at the hotel’s Front Desk.

She loved the Front Desk work at the hotel — “it was the right job for me because I love to take care of people.” She was happy to be living in the USA and has always made enough money to send some back to her family in Haiti.

My dream as a little girl was to come to America. I care about people, especially my family, and now I can send them money.”

In New Jersey, Marthe managed to both work and got trained as a caregiver. When she earned her HHA certification, she worked for an NJ home care agency that sent her to hospitals, Assisted Living facilities, and as an in-home caregiver.

She heard about Westchester Family Care through a co-worker working for a WFC client during the daytime. She recommended Marthe for that case’s night shift. The co-worker described WFC to Marthe: “You’ll like them. They are a good, decent agency and take care of their people.” Marthe drove to Mamaroneck, took their tests, and got hired. She has been with WFC since 2016, when we opened our doors, and has been with us exclusively ever since.

Marthe remembers each of her WFC clients. Her first job was in Pound Ridge, far away from Spring Valley, and she remembers driving in lots of traffic for a long time. She fondly remembers another case in Ardsley; that job was primarily being a companion to the client. “We were happy together; I stayed with her until she passed.”

Most recently, Marthe worked with a patient in Tarrytown for four years. “I loved working with her. She and her family loved me; her daughter called me Martita. She died only recently.”

Marthe is back to doing night work for WFC right now.

Marthe enjoys working with WFC. She also respects the company’s work ethic.

“I love them. Since I’ve been with WFC, they always call and give me good cases.”

“They are great people, and they have very high standards.”

“They make sure you know everything about the job. They always inform us of any changes we need to know about.”

“Glenn is always there for his people and me. He takes care of anything you need.”

We think you’re pretty great yourself, Marthe, and we appreciate the high standards you bring to your work. Congratulations on the December Caregiver of the Month double win with WFC’s Caregiver of the Year for 2022.
