The social fulfillment of companionship plays a big role in a good quality of life. Unfortunately, elderly adults that live alone or far away from friends and family are at risk of isolation. This can lead to reduced energy and declining health.
Westchester Family Care offers companionship services to seniors seeking compassionate and personal interactions. Our paid companions for the elderly can accompany your loved ones to local events, play card and board games with them, share favorite stories, and other engaging activities.
Keep Loved Ones Active with Senior Companion Care
Home care is a lot more than just medication reminders and transportation — friendship and companionship are just as important in promoting a positive well-being. Depending on your loved one’s needs, we can provide companion care in addition to other home care services or just companionship for those in need of good company.
Finding time to engage with aging parents or loved ones can be difficult due to travel or time constraints. Our experienced coordinators provide selective caregiver matching to pair your loved one with a care professional that has similar interests and complementary traits.
As sitters for the elderly, our caring New York State Certified Home Health Aides (HHA) can assist with:
Companionship, to local events, social outings, and activities.
Arts and crafts as well as other hands-on activities.
Cards and board games.
Music therapy to help with stress reduction and cognitive skills.
Reading and story sharing.
In-Home Companion Care FAQ
What companion care services are provided?
- Companionship is just part of what we provide at Westchester Family Care. All of our caregivers are certified home health aides and are supervised by RNs. Our compassionate staff can assist with personal care needs, but everyone’s needs are different.
- Our companion services are in addition to our personal care services to ensure your loved one is getting the care they require. While some individuals require more assistance with activities of daily living, others benefit more from companion care services where caregivers assist mostly with meal prep, medication reminders, transportation, and companionship.
-
Knowing that someone is there to check-in and ensure your loved one is happy and healthy provides peace of mind to our clients, especially if family members are living long-distance.
What are your available hours?
-
Our in-home care services are available 24/7 and can be tailored to your schedule.
Can caregivers provide transportation?
- Yes! Our caregivers can provide
transportation using their car, the client’s car, or can order an Uber to help the client get where they need to go. Our transportation services often take seniors to medical appointments, local events, beauty salons, recreation centers, and restaurants.
-
Being able to go to social events and medical appointments is the key to maintaining an active and healthy life. Our courteous transportation services are a favorite of our clients.
Can caregivers dispense medication?
-
No. Our caregivers can help remind clients to take their medication as the doctor recommends, but cannot dispense medication. If you or your loved one requires additional assistance with medication, our nursing staff can offer medication management.
How quickly can companion services start?
-
All of our in-home care services can start within 24 hours. After you contact us, one of our registered nurses will arrive at the premise and perform an assessment. Once we fully understand your needs, services can start. Same-day care can be provided in emergencies.
How do I know if I’m choosing the right in-home care agency for care?
-
The best way to know you’re getting dependable care is to make sure your in-home care provider is licensed. A licensed care agency ensures that all caregivers are background checked, have their credentials verified, and undergo initial and continuous drug testing and health exams.
How can I stay in touch with Westchester Family Care staff?
-
Typically, all communication goes through our nursing staff. Our office is our primary point of contact, and we use logs to monitor companion activities and the health and safety of our clients. We can also provide updates via email by request.
